What is a mastodon?
The mastodon is an extinct, prehistoric mammal that looked like a shorter, stockier, and hairier version of a modern elephant.
They lived during the Ice Age, had long tusks for eating plants, and were covered in thick, reddish-brown fur. They are distant relatives of elephants but are not the same as mammoths. Read more about The Johnstown Mastodon that was discovered in Johnstown, Ohio in 1926. |
