Digital Collection
Our Local History Digital Collection strives to be a trusted resource that connects to the diverse stories and fabric of the past. The collection includes resources useful to a wide variety of library users such as: Genealogists, Family historians, Patrons researching local cemeteries, Bios of area veterans, Students researching local history.
  • Historic Johnstown Ohio - A pictorial history of Johnstown, Ohio presented in conjunction with the Mary Babcock Library Foundation and the Johnstown Historical Society. 
  • Johnstown Independent Newspaper Archives - This resource includes the Johnstown Independent newspapers from June 14, 1884, through December 2007, with the exception of 1899 which has no known copies.
  • Johnstown Historical Society - The Johnstown Historical Society supports, encourages, and provides historical education and preservation for the Johnstown community. 
  • Mary E. Babcock Collection - This resource is at the My History website at the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
  • ​Johnstown-Monroe Local School District Yearbooks - These images begin with the year 1926. 
  • ​​Johnstown-Monroe Local School District Classes - These images begin with the year 1879.
  • ​William A. Ashbrook Diaries - “A Line a Day for Forty Odd Years ”  The Congressman's four volume diaries can be found on the Family Search website. Membership is free. Vol. 1 |  Vol. 2 |  Vol. 3 | Vol. 4
  • Cornell School - This local one-room schoolhouse is located at 453 South Main Street. Field trips are offered for area students and interested historians. 
  • ​​Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps
    Use to locate buildings and neighborhoods from 1867 to 1970 and study the growth of towns and cities

  • Licking County Genealogical Society - This organization is located at the Licking County Library in Newark, Ohio. They have resources pertaining to Johnstown history and genealogy. ​
  • Alexandria Local History Collection - This resource can be found at the My History website at the Columbus Metropolitan Library.
  • Veterans Project - The Licking County Library has a program called In the Company of Heroes, which seeks to gather, preserve and make accessible the experiences of all county veterans.
