Timeline of Johnstown

Pre-1800 - The Wyandot Indians live in Raccoon Town in what later becomes Johnstown and Monroe Township. ​
1800 - ​John Alston Brown was deeded 4,000 acres of land (in the Johnstown area) by President John Adams. ​
​1803 - ​Ohio became the 17th state to join the Union on March 1st.
1806 - ​George Washington Green and Charles Green explored the area of what is now the Johnstown area to get ready to settle their families here. ​
1807 - ​The George Washington Evans family settled in the area, followed by the Green families.  George and Charles Green purchased land  from the Wyandots. ​
1807 -  ​On September 15th, Mahala Green was born to George and Diadema Green and became the first white child born in what is now called Johnstown. ​
1808 - ​​Licking County was formed and named for the salt licks in the area. ​
1810 - ​On December 28th, John Alston Brown sold his ownership of land to Dr. Oliver Bigelow for $2.50 per acre ($10,000.00).
1813 ​​- Dr. Bigelow incorporated the Village of Johnstown in the State of Ohio.
1817 - ​Dr. Bigelow donated streets, alleys, the public square and the cemetery (Bigelow Cemetery) to the Village of Johnstown.
1817  ​Dr. Bigelow died on the 6th of November. and is buried at the cemetery that he had donated to the village. ​
1830 ​- Johnstown's population is 217.
1860 ​- Johnstown's population is 241.
1880 ​- Toledo & Ohio Central (T. and O.C.) train passed through Johnstown and was the first train to do so. 
1880 - The population of Johnstown is 279 residents.
1883 - ​Elijah Barton started construction on the Township Hall/Opera House.
1884 ​- Mr. Barton completed the township hall, including the second floor crowning touch of an opera house.
​1885 - On January 1st, the ribbons were cut for the dedication of the new township hall on the public square of Johnstown.  ​
1890 ​- Johnstown's population is 424.
1900 - Johnstown's population is 638.
1900  - Electric lights are installed in Johnstown. ​
1910 -  Johnstown's population is 805.
1930 ​-  Johnstown's population is 1006.
1950 ​-  Johnstown's population is 1220.
1960 ​- Johnstown's population is 2881.
1963 - Johnstown's Sesquicentennial celebration.
1990 ​- Johnstown's population is 3268.
2010 ​- Johnstown's population is 4632.
​2013 ​- Johnstown's Bicentennial celebration.
2021 ​- Johnstown's population is 5166.
2021 ​- On October 21st, the Village of Johnstown became the City of Johnstown. ​​
